About the photographer: Scott Birdsell

Biography

Initially Scott was from a small rural community in Central Illinois in the United States.

Currently he works with people with Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI) for a non-profit organization, called HeadEast, assisting clients to access the community and help them rehabilitate back into their different communities.

He has been interested in photography most of his life in one form or another, his favorite style being street photography or photo journalism. In the past year he has developed his hobby into more professional avenues.

Creative Statement

It was such a terrific experience being able to shoot the Orthotics Department at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. I had no idea the department staff did so much work, fabricating braces, splints, helmets and other supportive hardware. Not only was I surprised how skilled the staff were, but their personal skills interacting with the children.

I only hope my photos do them all justice in trying to tell their story.
