Creative Statement

As a photographer, I approach my assignments with little expectations and documenting the Edgar Stephens Ward was no different.

Walking away from the experience, I was deeply moved by the bravery of the young patients and their families, who were not only open to being photographed but also incredibly welcoming and accommodating despite the gravity of what they were going through.

It was also lovely to see how the Hospital has made the environment as warm and child-friendly as possible, with colourful interiors and tons of activities and toys to make the patients’ experiences as pleasant as possible.

I would like to extend my gratitude to both the patients and the staff, and hope to be able to further document the ward in the future.
