About the Photographer: Jack Harries

Biography

Jack Harries is a Sydney-based photographer and founder of The Heavy Collective, an online/offline publication promoting contemporary photographic practice. Self-taught, Jack now works as a curator, publisher and is also a co-owner of Sydney’s first Independent photography bookshop, Press Books.

Creative Statement

They only knew the pain when it hit, they never waited for it.

It wasn’t there, then it was and then it was gone again.

Taking the photos felt similar, you were there in the room, there was a wince, then screams, a mother, her anxiety.

Then you weren’t there and it wasn’t there, then you were again.

They gave smiles and laughter, then hurt and fear, but always bravery to the bone.
